What a lazy day! Cruddy weather never really gives one the incentive to rush out and do anything. A perfect day for lazing in bed watching DVDs. EXCEPT...someone had a rest day on Friday and had to make up for it today. A walk was on the cards - but it was pissing down too much. Quickly scratched that thought (though I did walk home from St Leonards - but that was only 'cos I was too impatient to wait for the next train that didn't miss our station. Luckily it never rained (well, not more than a wee spit) until I got in the door). Will do a DVD...later... Gotta love procrastination, huh?
As hinted above, I did leave the house earlier to go up to Chatswood. Wanted to pick up a new DVD and another battery for the camera (the old SLR, not the DSLRs). Was only a quick excursion, but got me up and about after brekkie. Speaking of brekkie, I don't think I'd recommend the banana bread to anyone for brekkie. It felt like...empty calories. It wasn't worth the calories! Didn't feel like I was getting my fill (I still felt quite peckish afterwards - but didn't have anything). Yesterday's brekkie - the fruit & yoghurt was SO much better (especially as we added flaxseed, cinnamon and a teaspoon of rolled oats (low GI) to it) - seemed to go much further than the banana bread for a similar amount of calories (if not a wee bit more - can't remember the numbers).
Dinner had to be modified as neither Wifey or I eat any kind of seafood. We opted for lamb meatballs (only 5 small ones each, well drained of excess fat/oil), with a couple of tablespoons of brown rice and mixed bean salad. Was very tasty. Must confess, I was naughty and suggested some ice cream and fruit (with a wee bit of cinnamon) for dessert. Maggie Beer's Vanilla & Elderflower ice cream is well tasty - and you don't need very much of it. Shh, don't tell Mish ;)
Exercise. Yeah. I did get rid of another 740-odd calories by doing the Biggest Loser Calorie Killer DVD. Now if Mish or Shannon felt like someone was talking about them around the time I was exercising - it was most prolly me! I was fair cursing and swearing at them. I did NOT want to be exercising but knew I had to. Frustration being taken out on poor Mish & Shannon (not that they seemed to be objecting to the abuse I was hurling at them)...again. Wifey was not allowed in the lounge - if she came in, I packed a howly-bag and just stopped. I guess it was a 'fat' moment; I felt too self-conscious.
I am starting to get used to being more physical, in terms of exercising, which is good. I think I can almost see how people get hooked on it. Don't get me wrong, I'm nowhere near being like that...not by a long shot! I am very much hoping I have the discipline to do two sessions a day (whether 2 x DVDs or 1 x DVD and a walk with Wifey). Hopefully that will start putting me into calorie deficit and the weight will drop off - especially since I seem to be burning around 700 calories an hour - that would be about 1400 calories/day...I'm surviving on the 1200 calorie diet (though this week was a bit tough - but I think it was more to do with the drop in temperature (I've always felt hungrier when it's colder...odd, huh?)).
Hooray! Just realised, week 2 is now over. Bring on the next 10! Two more weeks until the next fitness test...and mini-challenge (which I really must organise - perhaps a hike up in the Blue Mountains...with a heavy backpack?).
Am a happy camper - and seriously thinking about doing the 12WBT again next year - I hope it's offered!
arrrgh...i've been a firm believer that gyms are for fit people, not fat people. as i fit into the latter category, my excuse has been firmly cemented in my mind. the time has come to change though. i've sat through the last couple of seasons of 'the biggest loser' (usually while eating dinner!) and often would pass a comment to wifey that if i had shannon or michelle as a trainer, i'd be more motivated. now the 12wbt came under my radar and here we go...

12WBT +14
The day started very oddly. I was more hyper than a two-year-old who'd eaten a whole bag of blue Smarties! I was bouncing off the ceiling. Why? I'm now guessing it was a case of being over-tired and bloody knackered (again, my standard disclaimer - not literally knackered!). Anyhow, poor ol' Wifey was not enjoying the fact that I was on such a buzz. As she was lying there, trying to doze in peace, I was literally bouncing around on the bed and talking at 90mph (and then some).
This, however, was not to last for more than an hour. I had been wishing for it to pour down so that our training session with PT would be cancelled. Alas, there was no rain (well, not until about 30mins after we got home - MURPHY!!!!!!!!!). Our session was on. Not overly happy, Jan.
Now, in saying that I wasn't wanting to do this session, I am starting to - on some very sick level - enjoy them. That is just between you and I. There is no way I'm telling Wifey or PT this yet. How, you may ask, do I know that I'm starting to enjoy them? Well, that's a very good question! It comes down to the amount of foul language I spit out during the session. I'm now down to only swearing under my breath - usually when at the opposite end of the reserve to PT. This is a vast improvement on directing it all at PT. My sarcasm is now starting to come out, which, for me, is always a good sign.
At the end of the hour, PT asked how I'd gone with calories. I looked at my trusty HRM and couldn't quite believe it. Showed PT and had it verified - 935 calories dropped. Yeeeehaaaaw. Mind you, I felt it! The burn was a killer. But I have survived to tell the story ;)
The rest of the day was very ho-hum. Went to the mall to pick up some gifts and stuff. Then went over to Leichardt to visit a wee shop in the Piazza to pick up a Venetian mask for Wifey's dad's birthday later this week. After that it was to the supermarket to do the weekly shop - which was a very small shop (we're off to Melbourne next weekend so didn't need to worry about 3 days worth of meals - but I'm going to have to watch myself down there!).
We had thought about going to the movies but changed our mind. Instead, a certain someone (who shall remain nameless, but suffice to say it was not Wifey) fell asleep on the couch. Aww. Bless. I think it was out of respect for the scrummy dinner - polenta and braised veggies (now why is this not in our weekly menu? Easy. Quick. Yummy.). While Wifey was braising the veggies, I had the double duty of cooking the polenta AND making the banana bread for brekkie. I'm male. I don't multi-task at all very well. Okay, so I did survive this...successfully. Maybe it was cooking that made me tired (I usually only do the brekkie and lunch duties) ;)

12WBT +13
Ahh. The end of the week. Never comes fast enough, though this week I shan't complain as it came around nice and quickly (even if I did think Wednesday was Thursday for an hour or so - but everyone does that...don't they?).
I don't know what it is about Fridays. I just feel knackered by the end of the day (gone are my youthful days when I didn't worry about being dog tired). At the end of week 2 of the 12WBT I've come to the conclusion that Fridays are my rest days. I don't physically feel able to lift my arse off the couch, let alone do any exercise. I don't mind forcing myself to do something on a Sunday. In fact, I think Wifey likes the fact that I get up and go and exercise (I have a bad habit of not being able to sleep in, and when I wake up, I'm really awake - not giving Wifey a chance to rest. I have been likened to a little kid in that respect...).
We couldn't be bothered with a roast chook for dinner. We cheated and grilled a chicken breast instead. Squeezed the lemon juice over it and rubbed coriander, dill & garlic into it. Scrummy. I'd deffo have that again.
Rightio. I don't have nothin' more to say. Having been a lazy sod, there ain't much to say in the first place ;)

What a very...blah...day.
I was a bit peckish through the day - but not overly hungry. Had a few seeds and that seemed to keep me going. Wifey came into town and met up with me for lunch. Again, went down and sat in the sun at Darling Harbour and then went for a leisurely stroll around. It's nice doing that - strolling around in the sun. People seem so happy.
Modified lunch so that it was a wrap. I love the wraps...but I also love the salads. There are some good ideas that we're going to be adding to our inventory of lunches for the future. Can't complain about that - much better than just a plain sandwich.
We didn't really feel like the minestrone for dinner. Instead, which most likely wasn't that great, we had macaroni with ricotta & pesto and cherry tomatoes (and I had some chilli on mine, just for a bit of a kick). Mmm, was very tasty.
Tone-up Thursday didn't happen. We went for a walk instead. Another 550 calories gone (most likely what the carbs in dinner would've been ;) ). Am enjoying these walks every second night - and the workouts in between. Next week I'll be stepping up the ante and trying to do a couple of workouts a day... need to start doing more to make it all more effective. Will be absolutely gutted if Weigh-in Wednesday produces a less than desired decrease in weight. If that's the case, then perhaps up it to three...or four...or five (s'ok - I will wake up soon; I know I'm-a dreamin').

Weigh-in Weds. Wahoo. (Intense sarcasm intended ;) )
I sat down on the bathroom floor and had a very good one-on-one with the scales*. I gave them my point of view on things. They sat in silence and contemplated what I had to say. We mutually agreed that I would weigh myself and they would not be rude back.
It seemed to do the trick. Down 1.2kgs. Okay. Not the greatest. But still a loss (1.1% of starting weight - only about another 29kgs to go ;) ). Worked out that if I could sustain losing that each week, then I'll be uber happy before the trip to Africa. Noice! Also worked out that if I upped the ante and start the morning exercising - and throw in the afternoon/evening ones as well - I could perhaps drop a few extra. I don't want to be an exercise junkie (considering the language I can come up with in front of the TV...and at PT) - I just want to change my lifestyle and maintain a lower weight (and increased activity level).
Before I forget - last week I said that the salad was the best lunch. In the world. Ever. Please allow me the fickleness of revoking that statement and bumping said salad to number two best lunch. In the world. Ever. The new best lunch. In the world. Ever. Period. Is the feta and pumpkin one. How delish was that. How easy was it to make as well? (This is also a factor in my voting - a major factor ;) ).
Once again, modifications to dinner. Rather than beef stir fry, we were going to have tofu stir fry. In the end, it became just vege stir fry. Mmm. Fans of stir fry in this house. And this was another winner.
Exercise. Did the Biggest Loser Cardio Burn DVD again. I like this as it's only an hour commitment and seems to work many parts of my body that ain't had no working for a long, long time. Another 735 calories bit the dust. I know it's good to keep track of this, but I fear it's becoming an obsession with me. I'm big on being competitive. Now I want to burn off more than the last time...and I can see it being a case of me wanting to burn off more than I consume in a day (which will definitely help drop the kgs). Don't know if it's such a good idea in the grand scheme of things though.
* Please note: I may have a streak of madness/insanity, but I didn't really do this. Truly. I didn't.

Grr. Don't you just hate it when you feel there's something you need to do but can't remember what - so you just ignore the feeling, only to find out that you only have 5 minutes to get something done? Welcome to my world.
Due to this slight, erm, technical glitch with my brain, I never ended up having time to eat brekkie :( How gutted was I? Mind you, I didn't feel hungry (still had my mid-morning snack). Lunch was nice - went for a walk down to Darling Harbour with Wifey (yay for school hols). Granted, wasn't an energetic walk, more a very leisurely stroll.
I did managed to catch myself up in the arvo. It was like the technical glitch didn't happen (bet Virgin Blue were wishing that, too). I did start feeling a bit peckish by the end of the day, but you know what? I'm not feeling like pecking on things like I used to. I'm only now realising how much I used to snack unnecessarily. There seems to be more in the fridge. Don't tell Mish, but we have a cupboard full of crackers - left over from guests at the weekend. I haven't even been tempted to eat one of them. Yay me.
Have to say, really enjoyed dinner. The lentil spag bol was rather tasty. We decided to cut back the servings due to comments on the menu (gotta love people putting their comments up! I should, but what do I have to say that others haven't already?). I was surprised when Wifey had a wee bit more...and I didn't have to.
We went for a walk (rather than the toning exercises - oops). Just on one hour and I managed to burn just on 700 calories. Not too shabby. Could've stepped up the pace - was going at just under what I normally would've. Don't want to get too far ahead of Wifey though as it feels kinda rude to her.
Am not looking forward to weigh-in day. I didn't lose anything last Weds - don't think this week will be much better. I don't feel it will be. Time will tell (and the scales will spit the result at me. Grr. Bitter enemies, that's what we are).

Breakfast today didn't seem as substantial just looking at it but it was just as filling as all the ones last week. Looks, as they say, are deceiving. PT suggested that, since I don't eat avocado I should consider adding some ground flax seed/linseed to my cereals so I can get some of the good oils. Have been adding a couple of teaspoons and have to say, it's very tasty :)
Lunch was a bit...blah. I put about 1.5 teaspoons of curry powder in with the egg and it still couldn't really taste it :( I never put the mayo in - trying to cut out the condiments as much as possible (by order of the PT). It wasn't as filling as I feel it should've been, but in saying that, I still didn't feel hungry (oh, I made it into a wrap using Mish's fav - mountain bread - rather than making a sandwich). Had a couple of squares of Green & Black's 85% dark choccy for my snack today. Mmm. Dark chocolate is so the best people!
Now, that reminds me. PT has given me a slap on the wrist for having the dijon in the wrap last week - and for having carbs at dinner. To PT, I gave the two-fingered salute (with a smile, of course). PT said this as dropping the carbs is the quickest way to weight loss. I'm not here for a quick fix. I'm here for a lifestyle change; to live...healthily.
I know Mish has said mornings are the best time to work out but I'm just not up for it yet (been feeling well tired). This week I'm upping the ante and doing the intermediate program. Next week I will up it again and do morning sessions. Lets not jump into the pool without knowing how to swim (or even float). Moderation, kiddies. That's my new motto. So, the effort, after work, was to do the Biggest Loser Cardio Burn DVD. Bloody hell - they should call it 'kill as many people as we can in a one hour session' ;) I survived it (obviously, otherwise you wouldn't be reading this...unless someone has hacked into my account...). The one-hour session, including warm up & stretches, burnt a lovely 776 calories. Maybe next week I could do morning and afternoon sessions - will deffo put me in calorie deficit then...
Changed dinner tonight - had the leftover cauliflower soup from last week (as we had pizza last night...because we forgot to defrost the soup before our walk and don't possess a microwave to quickly do so - and because I felt like pizza!).
Just had a narcissist moment and had a nose over my blog. Normally I just write what comes into my head. For a change, I had a read over some of the entries. What a load of tripe! Waffle. About nothing. Nothing at all. What really surprised me - I have followers (note the plural!). I'm sure people have better things to do with their time :) Seriously though. Thanks for following. I've not even let Wifey read these (told her she can read them after the fact...).
